What if machine gun jetpack
He has a point. The hoverboard basically a fictional skateboard without wheels that would take you anywhere is a much lusted-after device. Since then, variations on the hoverboard have appeared in other movies and TV shows, video games, animations and books.
But how would you actually make one? Jamie Hyneman from the Mythbusters tried to use Engineering to make the Hyneman Hoverboard with a surfboard and a leafblower machine, but it didn't really work.
Luckily, Randall Munroe, the creator of the webcomic xkcd, also known as "a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math and language", came up with a plan that used physics to make a hoverboard. In his page entitled "Machine Gun Jetpack", he was answering the question, "Is it possible to build a jetpack using downward firing machine guns? You might have heard that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is Newton's Third Law of Motion.
If you fire a bullet in one direction, the recoil will push you in the opposite direction. But that's just one bullet.
Suppose you had a machine gun with lots of bullets, specifically the Russian Kalashnikov AK It weighs 4. If you factor in the hot gases thrown out and the explosive debris, the recoil increases to about 7.
Since the AK weighs only The amount of extra force this adds varies by gun and cartridge. The overall efficiency also depends on whether you eject the shell casings out of the vehicle or carry them with you. I asked my Texan acquaintences if they could weigh some shell casings for my calculations, but for a while they couldn't find a scale anywhere in the house. I helpfully suggested that given the size of their arsenal, really they just need to find someone else who owned a scale.
Ideally someone with less ammo. We can try multiple guns. If you fire two guns at the ground, it creates twice the thrust. If each gun can lift five pounds more than their own weight, two can lift ten. If we add enough rifles, the weight of the passenger becomes irrelevant.
An AK magazine holds 30 rounds. We can improve this with a larger magazine—but only up to a point. The reason for this is a fundamental and central problem in rocket science: Fuel makes you heavier. If we add more than about rounds, the AK is too heavy to take off. This suggests our optimal craft comprises a large number of AKs a minimum of 25 but ideally at least carrying rounds of ammunition each.
The controls felt a bit "floaty", and I would have loved some effects for the gun firing. Kind reminded me of Lunar Lander! Log in Register. Indie game store Free games Fun games Horror games.
